The 14th Nakazato Tarouemon

Ceramic career 

1957 Born the eldest son of Tarouemon XIII 

1979 Graduated from Musashino Art University, Department of Sculpture 

1981 Completed postgraduate studies at Musashino ArtUniversity 

1983 Began making pottery at Taroemon Pottery Studio 

1984 First prize at the 16th Nittenfor ‘Kairyoku’, a blue Karatsu pot 

1990 Special prize at the 22nd Nitten for 'Yakishime Pot 90‘ at the 22nd Nitten ’Yakishime pot‘ won the Prefectural Governor's Prized the Nagatake Prize at the 40th Saga Prefectural Exhibition 

1991 Saga Newspaper Cultural Encouragement Award 

2000 Saga Bank Cultural Foundation Newcomer Award 

2002 Takes the name Tarouemon Nakazato XIV 

2003 Selected for the 50th Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition ’Tataki Karatsu Yakishime pot’  Since then, eight times selected by 2016

2006 On the occasion of the visit of Heisei Majesties the Emperor and Empress to Saga Prefecture in October 2006, he was honoured with a visit to the Toujinmachi Ochawangama Kiln, designated a National Historic Site, and gave an explanation ‘Tataki Korean Karatsu Pot’ presented to  Heisei Majesties from Saga Prefecture 

2007 Became a regular member of the Japan Craft Association 

2010 Became vice president of the Saga Prefecture Potters Association 

2011 Awarded the Karatsu City Government Merit Award Received the Dark Blue Ribbon Medal 

2020 Opened the Ochawangama Pottery Museum on the premises of Tarouemon Nakazato’s pottery studio
